Movie Night: Chicago 10

Prior to the last movie night recently posted here, I held a movie night online but not on the blog as a test run. The movie was Chicago 10, a film technically classified as a documentary but with no narrator and with much of it animated to transcripts of the actual Chicago 10 hearings.

The movie plays more like a Hollywood film than a documentary, mixing freshly animated reenactments with archive footage of events that surrounded the Chicago 10 hearings. It offers a unique glimpse into the excitement generated from the activism that was present around that time, and also captures footage of some of the riots that occurred as a result of officers clashing with protesters. The real debate happens when the question is asked, “Who instigated the riots? The cops or the protesters?” And for the counter culture music lovers out there, this film offers a revolutionary soundtrack from Black Sabbath to Rage Against The Machine, to Eminem’s anti-war anthem “Stomp”. Just take a look for yourself. I promise you, if you’ve never watched this documentary, I can promise that it will be one of the best documentaries you’ve ever seen.
